Obituary

Paula Morazzi Hite, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed peacefully in her home in Amherst, MA, in the early morning hours on January 21st, 2026. She was 64 years of age. She was a nurturing mother, a devoted wife, a loving sister, a steadfast friend, and a talented artist.

Paula was born on January 3rd, 1962, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA to the late Peter J. Morazzi and Nancy (D'Agostino) Morazzi, growing up in West Concord on Laws Brook Road. She was the youngest of six children, and the bustling Morazzi home was often filled with extended family for holidays and other special occasions.

Paula attended Concord public schools and graduated from Concord Carlisle High School, where she took her first art classes, in 1980. After completing some coursework in art history at Brandeis University, Paula began to study painting at the School for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In 1988, she received a Diploma in Studio Art from the Museum School and a B.S. in Art Education from Tufts University. In 1990, she was the recipient of the Fifth Year Certificate and won a coveted Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Scholarship, which she used to fund six weeks of study in Lucca, Italy.

Paula met her husband Bill Hite of 34 years in 1989 in Somerville, MA. They were married in 1991 on a beautiful September day at Emmanuel Church in Boston, and honeymooned in New Mexico. They lived in Jamaica Plain and Roslindale before moving to Sunderland, MA, in 2002, and later Amherst, MA, in 2010. The greatest adventure of their life together was travelling to China to adopt their children, Kieran (born 2000) and Marlena (born 2005).

Paula remained committed to making art until the end of her life. Before she became a mother, she maintained a studio in each of the homes where she and Bill lived. Once her children arrived, she pivoted and devoted herself to their upbringing. As they grew older, she gradually returned to the studio and produced several distinct bodies of paintings and collages. In 2021 she became a member of the A3 Gallery in Amherst. At last, she found the community of artists that she had been looking for and her work flourished. She was loved and respected by her colleagues there and mounted a solo show of paintings in May 2025 called Confluence.

Paula raised her children in a loving atmosphere where they could grow up to be who they wanted to be. She supported her husband allowing him to advance in a dual career of performing and teaching, her loving bonds with her siblings were deep and strong. And when it came to her core group of friends, she invested the time and energy required to build lasting and loving ties. At her center, Paula was an artist whose unique of way seeing her inner life and the world around her was manifested in her work. She saw the world in in terms of tone, value, hue, line, rhythm, and texture. She made the world a more beautiful place, and we that knew her and loved her will be forever enriched.

Paula is survived by Bill, her husband of 34 years; her children, Kieran and Marlena; her siblings and their families, Robert Morazzi of Somerville, SC, Catherine Morazzi of East Wareham, MA, Mary Morazzi-Henderson of Harvard, MA, and Deborah Barradale of Merrimack, NH, and her beloved cats and dog. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Lucia Wier.
