Obituary

Paul Pylypetz, 89, of Concord, formerly of Amherst, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at his Concord home after a long illness. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of the late Agnes Ann (Zitkus) Pylypetz. Born in Amherst on September 21, 1924 he was the son of the late Peter and Anna (Wexeczek) Pylypetz. He attended Amherst public schools and graduated from Amherst High School in 1942. He attended Northeastern University in Boston and graduated with an engineering degree from Boston University. During World War II, he served as a Technical Sergeant in the Army of the United States. He worked at the Springfield Armory as a draftsman under John Garand. He was the inventor of the M1 Garand rifle of WW2. He later worked as a draftsman at Associated Engineers in Agawam, MA. For 25 years, prior to his retirement, he was employed as an Inspector for OSHA in Boston. Previously, he worked as an engineer at AVCO in Lowell where he spent time working on the NASA Apollo program. A resident of Concord since December 1, 1956, he enjoyed gardening and cooking and playing the harmonica. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Solis of Danville, New Hampshire, his grandson, Jimmy Solis Jr. of Dudley, Massachusetts, and great granddaughter, Julianna Sleeman. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Saturday in recognition of Mr. Pylypetz's service to his country in the U. S. Army. Cemetery: Burial in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visitation: Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 26th at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center from 11 to 11:45 AM. Service: A graveside service will follow at 12 noon in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord on Saturday. Officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors.
