Paul Brendon Monaghan, age 74, of Lincoln, formerly of Concord, Lexington and Brockton, died on February 26, 2021, from complications of lung cancer.
Son of the late Dr. Leo B. and Frances (Hall) Monaghan. Paul is survived by his daughter, Lea Monaghan of Ann Arbor, MI, her husband Chris Poulsen and their children, Isak, Gemma and Zane; his daughter, Jennifer Monaghan of Lincoln, MA, her husband Rob Fallon and their children, Zoe and Adia. He is also survived by his former wife, Nancy (Brugnoli) Monaghan of Weston, MA; his brother, Richard, and his wife, Libby, of Concord, MA; his nephews Peter and David Monaghan of Concord, MA; and by his brother, James, of Brockton, MA.
After serving in the US Navy in the late 1960's, Paul attended the University of Rhode Island, graduating with honors with a BS in Chemistry. After stints with Chesebrough-Ponds and Arthur D. Little, he worked as an independent chemical consultant, retiring with a few patents under his belt.
Paul and his family were residents of Lexington for 20 years. After living next to his brother, Dick, in Concord for ten years, he headed to Berkeley, CA to live near his daughter, Jenn, and her family. He enjoyed walking the trails and going to the local farmers' markets with his granddaughters. Later, he moved to Ann Arbor, MI, where his oldest daughter, Lea, was living with her family. He was pleased to have her three kids for sleepovers and to watch Michigan football with the family. He returned to New England four years ago and built a small home in Lincoln, next to Jenn's family, so that he could join them for dinners and family life.
Possessed with a tremendous intellectual curiosity, Paul wanted to understand the world and everything in it. He loved to meet new people as it gave him the opportunity to discuss the latest topic of his esoteric research. There was nothing he couldn't build or repair, whether it was a new deck, a new room or a '62 Ford Falcon. He enjoyed playing basketball and hockey in his 20's and 30's and rollerblading in his 40's. He was never much of a cook, but greatly enjoyed and appreciated the company and food served up by his in-laws, the Brugnolis, and later, by his daughters.
When the weather and COVID regulations allow, a private interment ceremony will be held in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, MA.
