Obituary

Paul E. "Skip" LaJoie, Jr., 82, of Concord, MA and Wolfeboro, NH, died quickly and peacefully on January 24, 2019. He was the husband of the late M. Paule (Logan) LaJoie who died in 2006. Skip was born on June 19, 1936 to his late parents, Paul E. LaJoie, Sr. and Alice (Rogers) LaJoie, and graduated from St. Sebastian's School. He was the owner of Northern Floors, Inc. in Winchester, MA. Later in life, he drove for several local excavating businesses. Skip held a profound passion for cars – well really anything with an engine. Racing throughout New England, Skip and his best friend, Eddie Redding, were well known for their custom built car the "Blue Bird Special". Off the track, he enjoyed a long membership with the Ty-Rods, 'the oldest Hot Rod Club in the East' (1970). His love for cars showed in how well he took care of them. Skip was inducted into the Ty-Rods New England Hot Rod Hall of Fame in 2005. For countless summers Skip called Winter Harbor on Lake Winnipesaukee his home. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends boating and jet skiing (yes he even raced on the water). Not wanting to sit at home in the colder months, Skip would snowmobile all over the Lakes Region, Twin Mountain area and up into Canada. The stories which chronicle Skip's adventures are strewn with fouled spark plugs, blown gaskets, tools, flat tires, laughs, friends, rpms, beer and friendly pranks. In 1960, his heart raced for Paule and they were married. They enjoyed 45 years of love and laughter, two daughters, four grandsons, one cat, one dog, two houses, five boats, four jet skis, six snowmobiles, too many cars and trucks to count. He leaves behind this long time companion, Christine Miller, his daughters, Pam Dixon and her ex-husband Russ of Chelmsford and Jodi Phelan and her husband Bill of Acton, his grandsons, Tim and Kyle Dixon, and Brendan and Brian Phelan, and one brother, Peter LaJoie. Skip was predeceased by his sister, Warrine Mulligan. All are welcome to celebrate Skip's life during visiting hours on Saturday, February 2nd from 11 am to 3 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ty-Rod's associated charities of Lazarus House, 412 Hampshire Street, Lawrence, MA 01841 or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
