Obituary

Patricia Flanagan, age 71, of Boxborough died peacefully on July 13, 2019 at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln. Affectionately known as Patsy to family and friends, she was the beloved wife of Daniel D. MacPhail, with whom she shared an incredible journey of love and companionship for the past 31 years. Patsy was born in Worcester on September 12, 1947 as the daughter of the late James J. and Catherine P. (Murphy) Flanagan. Patsy was raised in Shrewsbury, and graduated with honors from Shrewsbury High School in 1965. She subsequently attended UMass Amherst, where she studied abroad in Oxford for a year and earned a BA in English Literature in 1969. Leading up to her retirement, she served as Senior Human Resource Manager for Dynamics Research Corporation, which developed and maintained software for the military. A huge part of Patsy's life included a 27-year history of singing in The Concord Chorus. She once remarked, "Singing is like nothing else I do in my life." She loved the great composers, as well as the many wonderful friends and lasting connections she made through the chorus. Patsy also cherished her time on Boxborough's Personnel Board, where she was highly regarded for her HR background and critical thinking in a way that would never offend anyone. Fitness was also central to her life. She enjoyed swimming and cross-country skiing. Patsy's favorite sport was bicycling, and she especially treasured biking in the Adirondacks, Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Grand Canyon, Big Sky Montana, California coast, and the vineyards of France. In addition to her husband, her memory will live on through her niece, Katherine E. (Cameron) Scheuritzel, two nephews, Ted Flanagan and Michael D. Cameron, several grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as countless friends. She was predeceased by her two siblings, Kevan Flanagan and Kathleen (Flanagan) Cameron. Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM. An additional period of visitation will begin on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 9:30 AM in the Dee Funeral Home, followed by her funeral service at 10:30 AM in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center (across from Dee Funeral Home.) Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in West Acton. A reception will follow at her husband Dan's home at 145 Robinson Road, Boxborough, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Patsy's memory may be made to The Concord Chorus, P.O. Box 171, Concord, MA 01742 (www.concordchorus.org) or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
