Patricia (Breen) Farris of Peabody, formerly of Concord died Saturday July 4th in Peabody.
Patricia Elizabeth Breen "Pat", was born on February 7th 1921, the third daughter of Thomas B. and Elizabeth Clarke Breen. Her father was a prominent New York City roofing company owner, who had emigrated from County Fermanagh, Ireland in 1900. Her mother, emigrated from County Leitrim, Ireland in 1910. The family lived in a brownstone on the Upper East side. She had two older sisters, Rosalie and Kathleen.
She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1939 and made her Debut the following year. After graduation, Pat went to work in the Fashion Department of the Franklin Simon department store. Style & fashion was a passion throughout her life. She spoke often of her time there, saying the many employees there gave her an education in people skills, which she carried all her life. A very social and outgoing person, she shared wonderful memories of dates, fancy dresses and hairstyles and stories of nightclubbing at such classic places as the Stork Club, 21 Club.
In early 1944, she was introduced to Major William W. Farris of St Louis, Missouri. They were married at St Vincent Ferrer Church in Manhattan in November of 1945. They were perfect partners and enjoyed an amazing life together for 62 years. They had 5 wonderful children, for whom her pride never ceased.
Pat was extremely proud of her role of wife and mother and was a wonderful role model for her family. Her family was her "pride and joy", all the siblings have a close relationship and have been the center of her life, especially during the last 10 years. Words used to describe Pat by those who met her throughout her life have been "kind", "thoughtful" and "a wonderful friend". Throughout their marriage, they lived in Long Island, London, England and Belgium. After their retirement they would spend winters at their beach villa in the Portuguese Algarve, inviting family and friends to visit. In 1982, they returned to the States and bought a home in Concord, MA to be close to the children. Retirement afforded travelling with friends throughout the country and Europe, which was one of greatest pleasures.
Pat was an avid letter-writer and card-sender, never forgetting a birthday for family members and friends. When writing became difficult, she learned how to email and keep in touch with letters, notes and jokes.
For all who knew Pat , you knew the core of her being was based on her strong faith. It was that foundation, she believed, which brought her through her 94 years. If you were a friend of any kind, there is no doubt Pat has lit one of her famous candles and prayed for you at some time in her life. She will be missed, terribly, by her family and by those whose lives she touched. We all know her candles will now burn for us forever.
She was the beloved wife of the late William Walker Farris for 62 years, devoted mother of William B. Farris and his wife Lois of Taunton, Gregory B. Farris and his wife Linette of Pelham, NH, the late Patrice F. Burkett and is survived by Patrice's husband Wayne of Windham, NH, Alicia L.
