Obituary

Onofrio James Jim Barbaro, 84, of Concord, died Friday, May 27, 2011 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the husband of Mary (Michel) Tappe Barbaro and the late Maria (Pirrotta) Barbaro. Born in San Biagio Platani, Sicily, Italy on November 18, 1926 he was the son of the late Frank and Arcangelina (Vitale) Barbaro. He came to Chicago, Illinois at the age of ten, attended Xavier High School in Chicago and graduated from Pace University in New York City. From 1946 until 1953 he served in the U. S. Army, leaving as a master sergeant. From 1968 until his retirement in 1990, Mr. Barbaro was an internalauditor at RCA Missile Systems (later General Electric) in Burlington. A Concord resident since 1986, he previously resided in North Billerica. He was involved in Italian-American affairs, longtime member of the Sons of Italy in Burlington and a member of the Dante Alighieri Society in Cambridge. He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church of Holy Family Parish in Concord. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his son, James P. Barbaro of Belmont, his daughter, Marilyn C. Magistro and her husband John of Lovettsville, Virginia, and a sister, Carmela Millie Arena of Concord. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Barbaro and Anna Barbaro. Arrangements are under the care of Susan M. Dee and Charles W. Dee, Jr, Funeral Directors, Dee Funeral Home of Concord. Memorials: Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Bernards Cemetery, Concord where officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors. Concord's Town flag will fly at half-staff on Tuesday in recognition of Mr. Barbaro's service to his country during WW II and Korean Conflict. Visitation: Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 31st from 10 to 10:45 AM. Prior to Funeral Mass at 11 AM in Holy Family Parish, Concord.. Service: Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 11 AM in Holy Family Parish.
