Olof C. Johnson, Jr. 72, of Concord, died Wednesday, March 30th at home. He was the husband for 47 years of Jane (Applegate) Johnson.
Born in Randolph, Vermont on January 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Olof C. and Elizabeth (Hager) Johnson. He attended Castleton and Rutland Public Schools and graduated from Rutland High School in 1962. In 1966, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont and later received a Masters in Business Administration from Boston University.
Prior to his retirement in 2015, Mr. Johnson worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at MicroSense in Lowell. Previously he worked for over 40 years at several engineering firms in the local area including Segue Manufacturing Services, ADE Corporation, Lockheed Martin IR Imaging Systems, Precision Optics Corporation, Litton Itek Optical Systems, Eikonix and RCA Corporation. He also worked in hospital administration at Houlton Regional Hospital in Maine.
A Concord resident since 1978, he was a member of the West Concord Union Church where he sang in the church choir. He was also active in the Sunday Fellowship Group where he played music for disabled adults. He was also active in the Boy Scouts, Troop 132. A talented musician, he participated as a guitar player and singer in the Boston Bluegrass Union jam sessions and was active in amateur radio groups.
In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his son, Olof C. Johnson, III and wife Tammy of Ashburnham, and daughters Karin E. Johnson and partner Eric Waite of Westborough, and Laura K. Y. Johnson of Bedford, and granddaughters Helen and Virginia Johnson, both of Ashburnham. He also leaves his brothers Andrew Johnson of Burlington, VT and Eric Johnson of Central Bridge, NY. He was also the brother of the late John Johnson of Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at the West Concord Union Church on Saturday, April 30th at 1 pm. Officiating will be The Rev. Hannah Brown, Pastor.
