Obituary

Norma J. (Hasselman) Specker, 89, of Concord, MA, formerly of Centerport, NY, Amherst, NH and Ft. Meyers, FL died peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017 at The Gardens at Newbury Court in Concord. For 61 years, she was the devoted wife of the late Richard L. Specker. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 3, 1927, the beloved daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Thompson) Hasselman. She graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA in 1949 where she met her husband, Richard. Norma was active in her community as well as her children's activities throughout their respective educations. She was an avid sportswoman with a passion for golf, tennis, sailing, and swimming. Over the years, she filled her days with bridge, the Garden Club of Amherst, NH, the Historical Association and spending time with her many friends and her beloved children and grandchildren. Her true and adored passion was music. She began singing in her church choir, as well as town chorus' and she pursued this until the last week of her life. She loved her involvement at The Gardens, singing in the choir and participating in many solos and talent shows. Over her 5 years at The Gardens, she sang many duets with her beloved Pierre Jean. She is survived by her four children: Richard L Specker, Jr. and his wife Lori of New York, NY, Lynn Martin and her husband John Skinner of Boxborough, MA, William Specker and his wife Kathy of Holden, MA, and Nancy Roy and her husband Dan of Wilmington, NC, her grandchildren: William Specker, Adam Specker and his wife Susan, Charlotte Specker, Thomas Martin and his wife Alexandra, Christopher Martin and his wife Kristin, Katharine Martin, Taylor and Paige Specker, Alison and Daniel Roy, Jr. and Sarah Roy who predeceased her. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10:30 am in the Duvall Chapel at New England Deaconess Association, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or the Newbury Court Duvall Chapel Fund, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA 01742. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
