NeGarre Heshmat Moore, previously a longtime resident of Lincoln MA, passed away peacefully at home at Neville Place in Cambridge, MA on April 14th, 2022.
NeGarre was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1926 and moved to the US with her cousins when she was 20 years old. After many adventures she met her future husband, Murv, when they were attending USC. They then moved to the East Coast and married. She graduated from Boston University in 1952. They first settled in Waltham, where they started their family before moving to Lincoln, MA in 1965.
In addition to raising her children, NeGarre enjoyed many years working as an elementary school teacher's aide in the Lincoln Public Schools. She taught Farsi at Berlitz Language School, volunteered as an ESL teacher, and did volunteer work at Emerson Hospital.
NeGarre had a warmth and skill for welcoming people into her life. Everywhere she lived, she connected with people. She had friendships that spanned decades and meant the world to her. She appreciated the people she met at Neville and grew to love so many of her new found friends as well. NeGarre was very interested in others, often asking how they were feeling and taking time with them. She was active in the Persian community and loved sharing traditions of holidays, cooking, and the language from her native Iran with her kids, grandkids and others. She learned to use a computer when she was in her 80's to keep in better touch with friends and family via email.
NeGarre enjoyed years of playing tennis with a core group of women friends, had a green thumb, and loved gardening and caring for plants in her greenhouse. She enjoyed talking about politics and stayed involved by reading the newspaper, writing letters to the editor, listening to WBUR, and discussing politics with anyone interested. She enjoyed music and attended Lincoln Jazz concerts on a regular basis after Murv died. NeGarre loved walking for exercise everyday, and looked forward to daily exercise classes at Neville Place up until the last month of her life. Animals were important to her and while living in Cambridge, NeGarre continued to collect newspapers and deliver them to the Animal Rescue League on outings with Laila. She was also fanatical about flossing and brushing her teeth.
NeGarre is predeceased by her husband Murv and son Neil, and leaves behind her children Laila, Pari and her husband Brett, Dean and his wife Cathy, her daughter-in-law Lauren, her grandchildren Jonathan and his wife Colleen, Keith, Owen, Drew, Jasper, and Solana, and her great granddaughter Eliza.
Her family has immense gratitude for her caregivers, Adjoa and Nana, who showed such love, caring, compassion, and kindness during the last few weeks of her life. Thanks to her entire hospice team at Care Dimensions for supporting her in her transition. We appreciate the caring people at Neville Place who welcomed her to the community. We know she loved the care and attention from the dedicated kitchen and dining room staff day in and day out. Thanks also to the wonderful staff members that engaged with her during her evening strolls in the hall. In her last days she lit up each time her grandchildren came to visit and feed her her favorite sushi, or when friends from Neville sent their love and prayers. We appreciate all of you for the love you shared.
A private service will be held at the Lincoln Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to one of NeGarre's favorite charities: Planned Parenthood, Union of Concerned Scientists, resist.org, or Save the Children. Her family can be reached at negarre.moore@gmail.com.
Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
