Myrtle J. (Sorensen) DeMao, 88, of West Yarmouth, formerly of Concord, died Tuesday, June 7th at home. She was the beloved wife for 42 years of the late Samuel J. DeMao, Sr. who died in 1991.
Born in Lincoln on April 4, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marion (Woodward) Sorensen. She attended Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington High School.
A former longtime Concord resident, Mrs. DeMao was employed for several years at Van's Clothing Store in Concord and at the Concord-Carlisle High School cafeteria.
After moving to Yarmouth in 1986, she became a member of the Yarmouth Senior Center, and enjoyed knitting, sewing, Swedish weaving, and braiding. She also had a passion for dancing and gardening.
Survivors include her sons, Samuel J. DeMao, Jr. of Georgetown and Daniel E. DeMao of Cocoa Beach, FL, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sisters Marjorie Snyer of Acton and Dorothy Marquis of Waltham, and her brother, Edward Sorensen of Naples, FL. She was also the sister of the late Warren Sorensen and Harry Sorensen, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 13th from 9:30 am to 11:45 am in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a graveside service at 12 pm in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Becky Gettel of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord.
