Obituary

MORRIS BROWN, 91, passed away Monday in Littleton, MA. Formerly of Long Island, New York, he was born in Philadelphia on July 15, 1921 to the late Ethel and Mendel Brown. Morris worked in his family's store from the age of 5. In the 1930's the family moved to Florida, where Morris attended Florida State University. It was at his parents' home on Pearl Harbor Day that he met Frances (Shaw) of Boston, his cherished wife of 62 years. It was love at first sight and they were married the following April. Morris joined the Army Air Corps, and after receiving training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Academy in Miami, he served in North Africa and Italy during WWII. When he returned home, he and Frances eventually settled on Long Island, where Morris began a long and successful career in antiques and design. Architecture and design were his passions. As owner of Pickwick Decorators of Mineola, he and his craftsmen created original furnishings which were sought after internationally for residential, commercial and public settings, including, interestingly, the historic public library in Morristown, New Jersey. Always the recycler, Morris was known for "marrying" parts of antiques with new work, thereby giving new life to fragments and artifacts that would otherwise be lost. Morris and Frances enjoyed traveling to Europe, visiting museums and places of architectural interest. Upon retirement and the passing of his beloved wife, he eventually moved to Concord, Massachusetts to be near his family. He turned his artistic eye to the creation of small abstract paintings which were included in several local exhibits. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Concord Park Assisted Living and Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, for greatly enhancing Morris' quality of life in his final years. He was considered a friend to all, and his apartment was always open for a "tour" of his collection. He is survived by his dear sister Gertrude; devoted daughter Susan and husband David; son Mark and wife Zelda; loving grandchildren Alison, Ben and wife Ary; and great-grandchildren Rian, Kaleed and A.J. Service: A private family service will be held. In remembrance of a gentle and creative life, visiting the elderly and engaging in their inspiring stories is encouraged.
