Monireh Hodaie, known to many as "Maman-joon", passed peacefully on October 8, 2023 at age 97.
She leaves behind a large family tree of loved ones beginning with her three children: Farah Dustdar, Mahvash Ahmadzadeh, and Riaz Zolfonoon, their spouses to whom she was like a mother, the late Farzin Dustdar, Amin Ahmadzadeh, and Laurel Zolfonoon. She was always so proud of her grandchildren and their families who are spread worldwide: Shiva and Rama with children Yasmine and Kian, Tina and Guy with sons Sirus and Gian, Raha and Gui with sons Mathieu and Arnaud, Nima and Magali with children Suri and Oscar, Rachelle and Jamal with sons Zia and Sina, Gian and Wesline with daughter Amali, and Kamran. She is also survived by her sister Layegheh Hodaie, her children and their growing families Ladan and Anthony Vance and Ramin and Betsy Doorandish.
Monireh was born January 1, 1926 in Rafsenjan, Iran. She was a very devoted and active Bahá'í. Her life was a service to humanity. At the time, woman in Iran were not educated. She studied on her own and was able to pass exams to graduate. She was known as a deep thinker and a well-read young woman in her community.
She married Ahmad Zolfonoon as a young woman. They moved to a remote village in western Iran to help people. Ultimately, they settled in Abadan to raise their family. She continued her studies and worked as a social worker and other positions at the National Oil company and continued to be a very active member of the Bahá'í Faith.
She and her husband escaped religious persecution in Iran in 1980 and resettled in Luxembourg. In 1993, as a widow, she moved to the United States to be with her son and grandchildren. Here, she continued to teach the faith and be an active member of the Hudson, MA Bahá'í community. She is the author of Expressions of Love and Faith , a biography of her family and early believers of the Bahá'í Faith. She has since lived at Care One in Concord, MA for the past four years.
Her family remembers her joy of living, her laughter, her amazingly delicious meals and desserts, her generosity, her inspirational devotion to the Bahai'i faith, her many sacrifices, her prayers, and most of all, her love which she shared to all with abundance but most especially to the many generations of children in her life.
The family is holding a private funeral service on Wednesday, October 11th, at 1pm beginning at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA with a procession and service at The Knoll section of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 361 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. A public celebration of her life will be planned later in the year for her many friends and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation in her name to the charity of your choice.
