The world lost a beacon of unconditional love on Saturday, July 25, 2020, but her loving inspiration will live on forever. Millicent Isabelle Wagner (Hignett), 97, of Framingham, Massachusetts, died peacefully due to congestive heart failure at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts. She was Mom, Millicent-Mom, wife, Grammy, Aunt Mimi, and dear friend Millie to so many of the folks she loved and touched.
Born on December 8, 1922, in Chinchilla, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Isabelle and Frederick Hignett. Millicent was a Navy nurse in World War II, loving mother and wife, amazing Aunt, compassionate benefactor, volunteer librarian, historical re-enactor, artist, and loving friend. One of her nicknames was the "Angel of Evansburg" for all the charity work she did over the years in her longtime Pennsylvania home. Her compassion wasn't confined to Pennsylvania, however, as was evidenced in Earleville, Maryland, where she took blood pressures weekly, on a volunteer basis, of seniors who were often 20 years her junior.
Perhaps more than anything, Millicent loved her friends and family. Always eager to help, she'd crochet scarves, hats, and baby blankets, both for those she loved and those in need. She had the ability to love wholeheartedly, accept completely, and welcomed everyone into her community. A thoroughly modern Millie, she sent emails from her trusty iPad until the day she was admitted to the hospital.
She was the loving mother of John and daughter-in-law Gabrielle Wagner of Concord, Massachusetts, the late Richard Wagner of Boyds, Maryland, and the wife of the late Robert Wagner of Evansburg, Pennsylvania. She was the proud grandmother of Cas Wagner, of Earleville, Maryland, Tommaso Wagner of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Annie Wagner of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Dylan Wagner, of Concord, Massachusetts. Millicent survived her sisters, Evelyn, Nesta, and Ruth, as well as her brother, William.
We love you Mom, Millicent-Mom, wife, Grammy, Aunt Mimi, and dear friend Millie.
A celebration of Millicent's life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Millicent's memory can be made to the Cecil County Public Library or the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Earleville, MD.
