Niki Crowell, longtime resident of Strawberry Hill Road, Concord, died on January 30, 2011 at her home in Brevard, NC.
She was born on January 18, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in Springfield, Massachusetts from the age of 4 until she graduated from Central High School magna cum laude in 1931.
Niki graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1935 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bacteriology. While working at Westfield State Cancer Hospital, she met Dr. George E. Crowell, a dentist who had taken up practice in Boston. They were married in 1939 and settled in Belmont. Their children, Douglas, Garrison, and Sherida were born before they moved to Concord in 1952.
She was active in the community and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a charter member of the Old North Bridge Hounds, the Colonial Retriever Field Trial Club, and the Concord Dog Training Club. She and her husband, George, enjoyed hosting Parents League skating parties on the pond at Strawberry Hill Farm, numerous Old North Bridge Hunt Club Tuesday hunts, CRFTC field training sessions, as well as several equestrian cross country events in support of her daughters intrest in horses.
In 1962, she was invited to join the faculty at the Cambridge School of Weston. She retired as chair of the Biology department in 1981.
Over the years, the Crowells enjoyed raising golden retrievers under their kennel name Redigo. They were also enthusiastic supporters of their daughter Sheris enterprise, Unicorn Green Stables and enjoyed the comings and goings of the many young people of Concord that it attracted.
In 1989, Niki moved to Brevard, NC. Over the years, she served in many capacities as an officer and member of the Resident Association of College Walk.

A memorial service was held at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Brevard, NC.
All are invited to attend a graveside committal service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, (Rte. 62), Concord, Mass. on Tuesday April 19th at 3 pm. Officiating will be Rev. Tony Buquor, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord.
