Michelena (Intoccia) Skettino passed away peacefully on January 16th at home in Concord. She was the widow of the late Anthony (Tony) Skettino who died in 2014. The couple had been married for 61 years.
"Micky," as she was known to most, was born in 1925 in Scranton, PA to Vincent and Maria Carmela (Tripaldi) Intoccia. After graduating from Scranton Technical High School, she went on to study at The Powell School of Business.
After graduation, a young, stylish Micky took a job in the jewelry department of Scranton's historic Globe Store, at a time when going "downtown" to shop meant dressing up in your finest attire. The desire to look her best was something that she carried throughout her life, having her hair done, lipstick in place, and nails manicured right up until her last days.
She met Tony Skettino in high school, and they corresponded while he served in the Navy during World War II. When he returned to Scranton, they began dating and eventually married in 1953. Micky and Tony went on to have three daughters, Sandra, Jeanne, and Michele, and their two adored grandchildren A.J. and Nikki, who eventually stole the show.
When Micky married, she dedicated her life first and foremost to being a supportive wife and dedicated mother, and to creating a loving home. And she succeeded. The Skettino house was always filled with wonderful food, laughter, and one or two of the kids' friends who found a second home on Rebecca Avenue, and perhaps a second mother in Micky. In her own unique way, she helped us all be better.
We will miss her terribly but will always cherish those reminders of her life. From her neon yellow Mercury Comet, her favorite pink kitchen chair, rain babushkas, and QVC, to her quiet strength, mischievous sense of humor, and infectious smile.
Micky is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sandra Skettino and husband Dr. Richard Baxter, Atherton, CA; her daughter Jeanne Skettino and husband Ronald Bott, Concord, MA; her daughter, Michele Skettino and husband Edward Flamos, Forest Hills, NY; two grandchildren, A.J. and Nikki Bott, two brothers Vincent and Alfred Intoccia, as well as other extended family and friends.
In addition, in her final years, Micky was surrounded by the love and assistance of two very special caregivers, Evelyn and Jackie, who made her days brighter. The family thanks them both for their unwavering commitment and care during this period. You will be forever in our hearts.
