Michael P. Russell, 36, formerly of Concord, died Saturday, September 24, 2011 by accident in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the husband of Shawnde (Ledford) Russell. They were married in Maui in 2007. Michael was born in Concord on July 18, 1975, the son of James and Ella (Kinzer) Russell presently of Eastham. He attended Concord public schools and Belmont Hill School, graduating in 1994. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1998 with a Bachelor Degree in Latin American Studies. Michael participated in varsity athletics at both Belmont Hill and Middlebury, receiving 10 varsity letters. He was the captain of the Belmont Hill lacrosse team (1994) and the Middlebury soccer team (1998). Upon graduation from Middlebury, he taught English in Barcelona, Spain. He was employed in 2002 as a Spanish teacher and varsity soccer coach at Seabury Hall School in Maui. Michael was nominated for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program in 2007 and spent that academic year teaching in Peru. He was elevated to the department head of the foreign languages department at Seabury and voted MIL Soccer Coach of the Year for the 2008 – 2009. In July 2011, Michael and his family moved to Colorado Springs where he was employed at Fountain Valley School as a Spanish teacher and soccer coach. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Marley Ella and Lily Michelle, his 5 brothers and sisters, Richard and his wife Susan of Austin, TX, Deborah of North Andover, Stephen and his wife Michelle of Weston, Christopher and his wife Merrilee (Mardon) of Salisbury, CT, Nicole (Russell) Taucare and her husband Mauricio Taucare of Reno, NV, his parents-in-law, Gary and Sue Ledford and Peter and Jamie Moss, all of Eugene, OR, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Andrea and Brian Landis of Brooklyn, NY and Felicia and Noel Ellis of Kihei, Maui and seven nieces.
