Michael J. McHugh, a lifelong Concord resident and retired Sergeant for the Lincoln Police Department, died on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 87.
Mike was born on June 29, 1933 as the son of the late Francis and Alice (McNamara) McHugh. He graduated in 1951 from Concord High School as a Captain and member of the varsity baseball and football teams. He proudly and honorably served our country oversees in Germany for the United States Army during the Korean War.
A devout catholic, he was an active parishioner and usher at Holy Family Parish in Concord. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, and the Concord Elks. Throughout his life, he generously donated to many charities, both domestic and abroad. He also loved golfing, traveling, history, and horses.
He was the brother of Robert McHugh of Maynard, and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Eleanor Hopkins, Dorothy Rush, Elizabeth Haab, James P. McHugh, Francis C. McHugh, Jr., Alice Ryan, George E. McHugh, William P. McHugh, Paul R. McHugh and Edward J. McHugh.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Tuesday, January 26th from 6 to 8 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. All attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, January 27th. Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday, January 27th in recognition of Mike's faithful military service.
