IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Lydon
October 5, 1941 – December 12, 2023
Michael J. Lydon, 82, of Sudbury, formerly of Concord, died peacefully at Emerson Hospital with family at his side, on December 12, 2023, due to complications of lymphoma.
The only child of two Irish-immigrant parents, Michael grew up in Norwood and later attended Boston College High School, Boston College, and the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. After receiving his MBA, he went on to serve in the United States Army Reserve, stationed at Fort Bragg where he made lifelong pals, with whom he laughed and reminisced at countless reunions in the years that followed.
In 1965, Michael married Maureen Cassidy (d. 1989) of Dedham, and they reared their three children in Framingham. Michael came to Concord first as a commuter, becoming a full-time resident post-divorce in 1982. He maintained a successful management consulting business in Monument Square for more than 25 years, and later worked at Lexia in West Concord.
Michael loved the arts, so much so that he took a crack at acting in 1987, hitting the stage first with The Concord Players, remaining a prominent fixture in the community theater scene for many years. He had a long history of seeing live music, mostly jazz artists, including Louis Armstrong, Sonny Rollins, Diana Krall, Max Roach, and John Pizzarelli.
When not at a performance, or in one, he and wife Margaret Sullivan (m. 1997) could often be found exploring nature with The Thoreau Society, canoeing on Walden Pond, or holding hands along the beaches of the Outer Banks. But what they cherished most was spending time with their children and their rapidly expanding batch of grandchildren.
A loving and loyal father, husband, grandfather and friend, Michael never stopped discovering and sharing what he had found with his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Margaret Sullivan; his three children, Amy Seiter Lydon of Los Angeles, Brian Lydon of Freeport, Maine, and Matthew Lydon and his wife Stephanie Carter of Maynard, and Margaret's two daughters, Kerry Sullivan and her husband John Murnane of Sudbury, Bonnie and Marco Barbosa of Devens, and nine grandchildren.
Friends and family are welcome to a memorial gathering on Thursday, December 21st from 1 to 3 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Emerson Health Foundation .
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
