Obituary

Maurice McWalter, Jr., of Brewster, formerly of Concord, died on June 24, 2024 following a short illness. He was 83.

Mac was born on December 24, 1940 in Concord to the late Judge Maurice and Jean (Stirling) McWalter. He attended school in Concord, graduating from Concord High School in 1958. After graduating from Norwich University, Mac attended law school at Boston University, graduating in 1965.

From law school, Mac was drafted in to the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1968.

After coming home from Vietnam, Mac met the love of his life, Patricia Fox. They married in 1970 and settled in West Concord, with Mac starting his career as a third-generation lawyer in the family law firm, where he worked until his retirement in 2008.

After retirement, Mac and Foxie moved full time to Brewster. Not one to be able to sit still, Mac began a second career driving cars for a car dealership, and later driving a taxi, which he did until shortly before his passing.

As an avid sports fan, Sunday's in the fall were reserved for Pats games. As a season ticket holder, he rarely missed going to a game, even in the dark, pre-Brady days.

Always up for a road trip, Mac preferred to travel everywhere by car, seeing no problem with driving hours out of the way to visit some obscure location. He was the family story teller, never going anywhere without his video camera or camera, so he could be sure to preserve memories. He especially loved visiting with his many nieces and nephews, who adored him just as much. A recent highlight was a road trip to Virginia for a family reunion.

Although he was often quiet, Mac was a big presence. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, always willing to help those in need.

Mac is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia McWalter, their daughter Stacy Jean McWalter and her partner Mike Clark of Marlborough, grand cat Bacon and grand dog Oliver, and his sister Molly McWalter Donohoe of Haverhill. He was also the father of the late Terrence McWalter and brother of the late Meg McWalter Finan, Anne "Nancy" Forbes, Stephen McWalter and Thomas McWalter.
