Obituary

Maura Martin Roberts, 68, of Concord died Tuesday May 29, 2012 in Wayland. She was the beloved wife of 25 years of Charles D. Roberts. Born in Washington, D.C. on March 2, 1944 she was the daughter of the late John Martin and Mary (McCann) Martin. She grew up in Lowell, attended St. Margaret's School there, was a graduate of Keith Hall, also in Lowell in 1962 and received a BA degree from Lowell State College in 1966. She later received a MA degree in Education from Salem State College. Mrs. Roberts taught in the Dracut Public Schools and the Virginia Beach, Virginia public schools, From 1973 until 1985 she taught English at Sea Pines Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina where she resided until moving to Concord in 1987. From 1989 until 2002 she taught English at Concord-Carlisle High School. In 2001 she was honored to give the commencement speech at the June graduation. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and National Teachers Association. A former member of the Concord Country Club, she enjoyed knitting, reading, quilting and genealogy. She was the mother of Caragh McLaughlin Miller and her husband Mark of Eagle, CO., and step-mother of Stacey Santana of Buford, GA, Marcy Shipe and her husband John of Concord and Brian Roberts of Westlake, OH. She was also the grandmother of Alyssa, Sophie, Amy, Grace and Beckett., sister of Jack Martin and his wife Judy DePonbriand of Cambridge and Martha Coyne and her husband Kevin of Mission Viejo, CA. and aunt of Elizabeth and Andrew Coyne, both of Mission Viejo, CA. Cemetery: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Mass. Visitation: Visiting hours in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER will be held on Wednesday June 6th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Service: A graveside service in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, (Rte. 62) Concord Center will be on Thursday June 7th at 11:30 am.
