"If your love were a grain of sand, mine would be a universe of beaches" – The Princess Bride
A movie line that describes how much Matthew adored his family, friends, and coworkers. His enthusiasm for music, adventure, travel, and new challenges would lead him to friends wherever he ventured. Once he met you, he was your best friend for life. He led his life with a charming smile, kind and caring heart, and never hesitated to share his infectious laugh and humor.
Matthew "Hippie" Welch was born August 13, 1982 and graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School before going into stage rigging and production management. As a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees union, Mat oversaw stage production at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. He was also deeply connected to the crews at Great Woods and other artists and show productions.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Alan and Patricia Welch, of Shirley; brothers Andrew Welch (wife, Alicia) of Charlottesville, VA, and David Welch (wife, Stephanie) of Westminster; nieces Elliot (Sophie) Houle and Brenna Welch; nephew Keanan Welch; a large family of aunts, uncles, and close cousins who he called friends, and his beloved friends he called family.
A celebration of Mat's life will be announced at a later date. Please email
