Obituary

Mary (Coffey) Sleeper, 89, of Greenfield, NH, formerly of Concord, MA and Carlisle, MA, died Sunday November 25, 2018 in Peterborough, NH. She was the beloved wife of the late Carroll B. Sleeper who died in 1992. Born in Concord, MA on February 5, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Albert M. and Elizabeth (O'Brien) Coffey. She attended Concord, MA schools and was a 1947 graduate of Concord High School. She later became a Registered Nurse after graduating from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Boston. Mrs. Sleeper was employed as a Registered Nurse at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA and also for Visiting Nurse Association Care of Middlesex County. A resident of Carlisle from 1952 until 1974, she was active on the Executive Board of the Concord and Carlisle Girl Scouts. She also was a member of the Carlisle Historical Society, Carlisle Friends of the Library, and was a communicant of St. Irene's Church in Carlisle where she served on the Woman's Club and as a C.C.D teacher. Mrs. Sleeper was instrumental in reviving Old Home Day in Carlisle, and in recognition of her service, was awarded the Town's Honored Citizen Award. A resident of Greenfield, NH since 1974, she was a member of the Greenfield Historical Society, Friends of Greenfield Library, and Greenfield Women's Club. She also served on the Guild at St. Patrick's Church in Bennington, NH, was instrumental in the revival of Old Home Day in Greenfield and was a volunteer for Monadnock Family Services. She was an avid gardener and animal lover. Survivors include her daughter Janet E. S. Dyson of Greenfield, NH, formerly of Boxborough, MA and her two grandchildren, Julie Dyson Forbes and her husband Nathan of Bend, OR and Christopher Carroll Dyson of Boxborough, MA. She was also the sister of the late Albert M. Coffey Jr., John Coffey, Joseph Coffey, Margaret Jepsen, Eileen Dunbrack, David Coffey and Peter Coffey, and is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Saturday December 1st from 11 am to 12:45 PM at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square Concord at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in Green Cemetery, Carlisle. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in Green Cemetery, Carlisle.
