Obituary

Mary K. Hayes, of Concord died peacefully at home on May 9, 2017. Mary was born on November 16, 1930 to Alfred and Ethel (Sullivan) Davis. She was raised in Lincoln, Ma until her marriage to Richard T. Hayes in 1955 with whom she would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary in July. Mary graduated from Concord High School in 1948, and Boston University in 1952. She went on to earn her Masters Degree from Boston State College. She was a teacher for many years and spent from 1968 to 1986 teaching at Maynard High School, where she also made many lasting friendships. Mary was a caregiver at heart. Her home was always open for convalescing friends and she spent many years caring for her own mother and her father-in-law as well as her brother and young nephews. Her five young grandchildren were blessed to have Nana as their special babysitter as they were growing up. Mary enjoyed the company of many good friends, playing her piano, knitting, making rosaries for ministries and gardening among many other things. Her beautiful gardens were special to her. She was an excellent cribbage and backgammon player and always enjoyed "bringing the board out" to challenge family and friends. In earlier years, she enjoyed summertime at Stinson Lake with her husband, daughters and nephews. Later on, most special memories were made at the family swimming pool, "Lake Hayes", the fun place to be in the summertime. As a very active parishioner of St. Bernard's Church and later Holy Family Parish, Mary served as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as the Treasurer of Our Lady's Fraternity. She was largely responsible for the existence and coordination of the 7 o'clock mass for many years, and was a proud member of the "7 O'clock Sinners". She enjoyed delivering Communion to patients and residents, as well as helping out every week at the church. She was also involved with DAR for many years as well as the Concord Friends on the Aging. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her three daughters, Mary Lou Hayes-Dagostino of Littleton, MA, Carole Raikunen and her husband Wayne of Pepperell, MA and Donna Hayes Murphy of Littleton, MA. In addition to her daughters, she is the grandmother of Jeanna Raikunen, Christopher Dagostino, Breanna Murphy and Libby Dagostino. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Ryan Murphy and her brother, Alfred Davis.
