Mary Frances Eagle, 91, of Bolton, MA, formerly of Evanston, Illinois died Monday, January 31, 2011. Born on November 25, 1919 she grew up in Abingdon, Illinois, the daughter of Dr. Jesse Rowe and Nina D. Rowe. She received her A.A. degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and her B.A. from the University of Chicago, where she met her husband, Dr. Edward Eagle. While raising four children, Mary Frances received a Masters degree in Education and taught in the Evanston Public Schools for 22 years. After retiring she tutored for the Evanston Public Schools working primarily with pregnant teens.
Mary Frances took up painting in watercolor after her retirement and enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world. She was an avid reader with wide ranging interests encompassing history, mystery, and art. She was a member of the Chicago Botanic Garden and a passionate gardener. As a founding member of the Lakeshore Unitarian Society in Winnetka, IL, Mary Frances participated in many capacities, serving as Program Chairman for many years. She found joy in her family and friends as well as in sunsets, water, trees and flowers which reflected her great love of beauty in nature.
Mary Frances is survived by her children, Nancy (Eagle) Horrall of Harvard, MA, Margaret Eagle of Belmont, MA and Louis Eagle of Portland OR. ; her sons in law, Thomas Horrall and Eli Rapaport; her grandchildren, Jesse Rapaport and Sarah Rapaport of Belmont, MA; her sister Martha Miles of Shakopee, MN; her nieces, Jessica Rott, Priscilla Merryman, and Pam Dalstrom; six grand nieces and nephews and five great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and daughter, Ellen Eagle.
