Obituary

Mary T. (Grant) Curran, 86, of Concord, formerly of Braintree, died Sunday May 22, 2016 in Sudbury. She was the beloved wife of 60 years of Edward M. Curran. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Edward Curran Jr. and his wife Sandy of Colorado; Stephen Curran of Quincy; and Kathleen Finnegan, most recently of Acton, and was the mother-in-law of the late Joseph Finnegan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dyani, Ryan, Tyler, and Dylan Curran; Shayna, Riley, and Leo Curran; and Connor and Devon Finnegan; her brother William Grant of South Boston; and her cousin Mary Fitzpatrick, also of South Boston. Born in Dorchester on May 1, 1930 to William J. Grant of Dorchester and Theresa McNeany of South Shields, England, Mary grew up in South Boston. She was a true Southie girl, spending many happy moments in her youth at Carson Beach and enjoying French fries "done the right way" (with salt and vinegar) at Kelly's Landing. She attended Nazareth High School, where she made several lifelong friends, and was a member of the Class of 1947. In her 20s, Mary worked at Sentry Insurance in Boston, where she met the man who would become her husband. Mary and Ed settled in Braintree and raised three children with love and care. An avid reader throughout her life, Mary liked nothing better than a good mystery novel. Her other passions included camping and swimming, movies and plays, and music and dancing. She especially enjoyed attending the plays, performances, and other events involving her grandchildren. Throughout her life, Mary's greatest joys were her family and her faith. She was generous of heart and spirit, with a playful sense of humor that never left her, even throughout the illness she battled bravely for the past year. Mary repeated often her wish that friends and family should not be sad at her passing, but instead throw a big party to celebrate her life. Her strong belief, many times expressed, was that if you lived a good life and did not hurt anyone, you would make it to heaven--where she, no doubt, now has a front-row seat. May she rest in peace.
