Obituary

Mary R. (Scott) Carey, 80, of Haverhill, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully and comfortably at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, following a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Carey, who died in 2018.

Mary was born in Chelsea on February 5, 1945 to her late parents, John and Rita (Hoar) Scott. She was a 1963 graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston.

For many years, Mary was employed by Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington as a Medical Assistant. She enjoyed her work and made numerous friendships during her time at Lahey.

Family was always at the center of Mary's world. She was a natural caretaker from an early age. Her life was devoted to nurturing, supporting and uplifting those she loved. One of Mary's most endearing qualities was her selfless ability to put others before herself. Mary's character and values were steadfast throughout her life.

She enjoyed residing in the Northfields neighborhood of Haverhill, a community in which she was active and had many dear friends. Mary had wonderful memories of trips to Cape Cod and Lake Winnipesaukee. In her spare time, she could often be found crafting, gardening and searching for her next great find at an antique shop.

Mary leaves behind her three daughters, Kristen Kilcommins and her husband Michael of Harvard, Patricia Carey-Hill and her husband Dwayne of Valencia, CA and Dawn Piekarski and her husband Matthew of Upton. She was the proud Grammy "Gram" of Abigail Kilcommins, Grace Carey-Hill, Sophia Piekarski and Laura Piekarski. She is also survived by her siblings, James Scott, Kathleen McMahon, Joseph Scott and Heléne Scott, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by two brothers, John Scott and Paul Scott, and her sister, Margaret Charette.

Family and friends will gather for visiting hours in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA on Thursday, August 28 from 3 to 6 pm, concluding with her funeral service beginning at 6 pm. Private burial will be at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
