Mary Hart Burtis, a Concord resident since 1995, died at her home, following a long illness, on Monday, January 27, 2020. She was the devoted wife for 44 years of William J. Burtis, M.D.
She was born in Escanaba, Michigan as the daughter of the late William and Mary (Dart) Hart. She grew up in Escanaba before attending nursing school in Chicago and beginning her career in the health care field.
Mary worked in various doctors' offices and hospitals in the San Francisco Bay area, where she met her husband, Bill. She supported and encouraged him as he completed medical school, fellowship at Yale, and later, an endocrinology practice at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Together, they resided in Mountain View, CA, New York, NY, and Guilford, CT, before settling in Concord over twenty years ago. Those who knew Mary will miss her twinkling eyes, her enthusiasm, and her artistic talents and passion for interior design.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind one sister, Carol Duschean, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Everett Hart, Arthur Hart, and Bette Stephani.
