Obituary

Mary Edith (Flannery) Bufton of Concord, lifelong resident and native of 90 years passed peacefully with grace on 10-20-2010. Born in Concord at the Flannery Home on March 16, 1920, Mary was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Mabel, and a descendant of a multigenerational Concordian family. Mary graduated from Concord High School in 1938. During the WWII era, Mary worked under government contract for Raytheon Corp, Hanscom Air Base and served in the Womans Defense Corp. 4th company 10th div., between 1943-1946. The womans division of the Massachusetts State Guard. Mary was employed by Rose Hawthorne School, the Town of Lincoln for over a decade and was an institution at the Concord Town Hall in the Town Clerks Office. She retired after 20 years, but stayed on to help the Town for numerous years thereafter. She was a life long parishioner of St. Bernards (now Holy Family) parish, the secretary for the historical commission and was extremely proud to have served her 56th year as an electoral Officer at the age of 90. Mary had warm presence and took joy in small things. She was extremely hard working, sharp, humble and had a great sense of humor. Dedicated to both family and Concord, Mary was the epitome of fortitude. Beloved mother of Linda M. Mara and her husband Steven of Harvard. Four Grandsons; Ted, his wife Amy and their children, Great Granddaughters Caroline, Julia, Ashlyn, all of Harvard, Tim, his wife Deanna and their children Great Grandchildren Michael, William, and Jillian, all of Waterbury CT, Todd of Roseville, CA, and Adam of Harvard. Brothers, centenarian Robert Flannery of Brookline, NH, Ralph Flannery and his wife Connie of Lincoln. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and lifelong Concord friends, including Ethel Dalton. Predeceased by her siblings, Richard, Lawrence, Donald, William, Walter, Leonard Flannery and Margaret Britt. Eight of ten siblings served in various branches of the Armed forces, making the Flannerys Concords most served family during WWII. Cemetery: Interment Saint Bernards Cemetery, Concord. Visitation: Visiting hours Monday, Oct. 25th from 5 to 8 PM at the Dee Funeral Home. Service: Funeral, Tuesday, October 26that 9 AM from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord.
