Mary Barbara Bruno (née Dunbar) of Bedford and formerly of Westwood, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2021 at age 82. Barbara, as she preferred to be known, was born on August 10, 1939 in Boston, the youngest of five children to the late George Dunbar and Anna (née Young) Dunbar.
Barbara married her beloved husband, Philip G. Bruno, on February 5, 1966 at St. John's Church in East Boston. The couple made their home together in Westwood in the early 1970s, where they welcomed three daughters, Cara, Mary and Victoria. Barbara became a stay-at-home mother for many years before assuming an administrative role in the Space Research Department at Boston College when her daughters were older.
Always a loving mother and wife, Barbara was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family, especially over the holidays. For many years, she collected a large library of recipes and always accepted the challenge to prepare something new and unusual. Never one to sit still, she spent her additional free time gardening, refinishing furniture and sewing. Attending church was a daily occurrence after retirement from Boston College and served as her quiet time to meditate and show gratitude for the life she cherished.
In Loving Memory of a lovely human being, a wonderful mother and mother-in-law to her favorite son-in-law, John, a devoted wife and a treasured best friend.
Family members gathered for a private funeral service in the Farrar Chapel of Dee Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
It's Me
By Kelly Roper
When the sun breaks through the clouds
And a warm beam shines down upon your face,
It's me reaching out from Heaven to touch your cheeks
And whisper, "I'm alright."
When a gentle breeze finds you and
Refreshes your mind and body,
It's me caressing you and reminding you,
"You're alright too."
