Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Tobin) Carrigan, 89, of Concord, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip A. Carrigan, Jr. Born in Concord on March 6, 1922 she was the daughter of the late William J. and Mary A. (Kilduff) Tobin. She attended Concord public schools, graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham in 1939 and Faye Secretarial School in Boston in 1941. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at the United War Labor Board in Boston and was a member of the United Mine Workers Association in Boston. From 1978 until 1986, prior to her retirement, Mrs. Carrigan worked as a secretary at Sentry Insurance Company in Concord. Previously she worked at Sawyer, Hardy, Stone and Morrison Law Firm in Boston. A lifelong Concord resident, she was a longtime communicant of St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish and a member of St. Bernard's Sodality. Survivors include her daughter, Maureen Read of Concord, Eileen Powers of Mesquite, Nevada, Philip A. Carrigan III of Harvard, Kevin W. Carrigan of Rockport, six grandchildren, two great granddaughters and one great grandson. She was also the mother of the late Jack Carrigan, grandmother of the late Jennifer Powers and sister of the late John R. Tobin. Arrangements are under the care of Susan M. Dee and Charles W. Service:
Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 3rd from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 8:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 9:30 AM.
