Mary P. Baumgartner, 93 years old, formerly of Bloomfield Village, Michigan passed away peacefully at Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, Massachusetts on November 7, 2021.
Mary was born in Vandling, Pennsylvania to James "Dusty" and Elizabeth Melvin Painter. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan with her younger brother Michael (dec. 2019) surrounded by an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. After graduating from Marygrove College she taught in Detroit Public Schools for several years and married Edmund (Ed) Baumgartner on October 2, 1954. Mary and Ed were married for 61 years until Ed's passing in 2015.
After living in Southfield, Michigan Mary and Ed moved to Essex England in 1961. They returned to the U.S. in 1965 and resided in Bloomfield Village, Michigan on Roland Drive until 2009 when they moved to the Boston area. Known for her kindness and generosity, Mary loved walking, talking to her many relatives and friends (and her children's friends) cooking, and enjoying a glass of wine.
Mary is survived by her four children, James Baumgartner of Winter Park, Florida, Elizabeth Weeks of Brooklyn, New York, Katherine Lowrie of Belmont, Massachusetts and Edmund "Ted" Baumgartner, Jr. of Lincolnshire, Illinois; her 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17th at 10:30 am at St. Regis Church in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where Mary was a long time parishioner. In consideration of Covid protocols attendees are respectfully requested to be vaccinated. The service will be live streamed from St. Regis (stregis.org) for those unable to attend in person.
