Obituary

Martin Rachman a long-time resident of Concord, Massachusetts, passed away at Concord Park on January 14, 2021, from complications of COVID-19. He was 89. Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania on April 4, 1931, he was the son of Harry and Mildred Rachman. Martin grew up in Scranton, PA, where he starred on the athletic fields of Central High School, as captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams. On the gridiron, he played quarterback, safety, and would kick, as well. He played football in college and he graduated with engineering degrees from Farleigh-Dickinson (B.S.) and Stevens Institute of Technology (M.S.) He served honorably in the Naval Reserve. In 1956, he married Ileana Wolfgang of Scranton, and they moved to Concord in 1967 and raised six children. In his engineering career, he worked for Honeywell and Raytheon where he was involved with quality assurance and guidance systems, one project he worked on was connected with NASA's Mariner Mars project and another was connected with the Patriot Missile System. In the 1980s, he founded Vendor Control Service, a company which is currently run by his sons, William and Bruce. An avid bridge and tennis player, Martin loved sports, served on the Town of Concord's Board of Recreation, and enjoyed his days coaching Pop Warner Football. He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years. He is survived by his daughters, Sabina Rasenow (Benjamin Rasenow), Julie Pangburn (Walter Pangburn), and Melissa Van Doren (Stephen Van Doren); his sons, William Rachman, Bruce Rachman (Sara Misch Rachman), and Stephen Rachman, and thirteen grandchildren. Interment was on January 15, 2021 at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, MA. Watch the recording below.
