Martin J. Powers, 78, of Lincoln, known to many as Marty, passed away at Care-One in Concord on August 22, 2022, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband for 46 years of the late Diana (Furdock) Powers, who died in December 2017.
He was born in Concord on February 3, 1944, as the son of the late J. James W. and Catherine (Gallagher) Powers. After attending grammar school at Rose Hawthorne School in Concord, he graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham. Subsequently, Marty earned an undergraduate degree from Boston College.
Marty's extensive career in real estate began when he joined his father in the family business, eventually taking over and operating the company for many years.
The consummate volunteer, Marty enjoyed nothing more than giving of his time and energy to any club or organization that he had the privilege to join.
He was an active, 45-year member of the Concord Lions Club, a past president, and Melvin Jones Fellow. He was very proud of his "perfect attendance" throughout his 45 years with the club. He was recently granted life membership.
Marty was also a Life Member (41 years) of the Musketaquid Sportsman's Club, serving multiple terms as President, and a director. He organized and for decades he ran the clubs' annual cribbage tournament, often carrying home the winning trophy.
As a teenager, Marty joined the Concord Fire Department as a volunteer / call firefighter, rising to become a Deputy Director of the Concord Emergency Management Agency.
He and Diana treasured their getaways to Vinal Haven, Maine over the years, where they enjoyed a summer home.
He leaves behind one brother, James F. Powers and his wife Willemina of Stow, one sister, Kathleen Arthur and her husband Jay of Harwich, his nieces and nephews, Emily Saunders, her husband John, and their children Ridley and Delia of Montclair, NJ, James R. Powers, his wife Cindy, and their daughter Mia of Nashua, NH, Ryan M. Powers, his wife Denise, and their son Tyler of Ashland and Rachel Brierly, her husband Derek, and their sons Adam and Nathan of Holden, along with many friends who will miss him dearly. Marty was predeceased by his younger brother, John J. Powers, in 2004.
The family also wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff of Care-One in Concord for their compassion and care during Marty's final years.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marty's life during visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Thursday, September 8th from 4 to 7 pm.
