Martha Chandler Johnson

Martha “Marty” (Chandler) Johnson, formerly of Wellesley, MA and York Harbor, ME, died on June 30, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, MA at the age of 98. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Johnson who died in 2009.

Born in Manhattan, New York on November 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Chandler, Jr. and Virginia (Miller) Chandler. She attended schools in New York and Wheelock College in Boston. During her summer breaks from college, she was employed by the New York Times in New York City.

While a resident of Wellesley, she was an avid tennis player and a member of the Longwood Cricket Club. During her retirement years in York Harbor, Maine she enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and swimming. She was an active member of the York Harbor Garden Club and was a longtime member of The Reading Room and the York Golf and Tennis Club. For several years, she also volunteered at the York Hospital and York School District.

A woman of strong faith, Marty was a former parishioner at Trinity Church in Boston, where she served on the Altar Guild.

Family always remained at the center of her life. She deeply valued the relationships and connections with those who graced her life. Marty and her husband Bob traveled extensively over the years, making wonderful memories along the way.

Marty was the devoted mother of Mark Chandler Johnson and his wife Susan Dee, of Plymouth, formerly of Concord, and Judy Bonasoro and her husband Robert of Framingham. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Turner Johnson, Kristin Doucette, Keith Bonasoro and Kimberly McGreal, Pamela Pickering and Matthew Adams, all of Massachusetts, 13 great grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, Olivia, Max, Jake, Chase, Avery, Tucker, Griffin, Foster, Emerson, Paige and Leah, along with 4 nieces and 1 nephew. She was also the grandmother of the late Avery Miller Johnson and sister of the late Samuel Chandler, III.

Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA on Wednesday, July 8th beginning at 10:00 am. Marty’s funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
