IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Magurn
Ivey
September 4, 1924 – May 19, 2023
Martha (Magurn) Ivey, formerly of Torrance, CA and Concord, MA, died peacefully at Bridges by Epoch in Westford, MA on May 19, 2023. She was 98.
A native Concordian, she was born in the family's Sudbury Road residence on September 4, 1924. She was the daughter and one of nine children of the late Francis and Mary (Barry) Magurn. While Martha lived most of her life in Torrance, CA where she volunteered for her community, and was active playing golf and tennis, she always remained proud of her Concord roots.
An avid and talented equestrian, her connection with horses and animals brought Martha immense joy throughout her life. During the years of World War II, she was asked by the Town of Concord to reenact the role of Dr. Samuel Prescott and his famous horseback ride from Lexington to Concord. She enjoyed participating in this role for town ceremonies. She was also a longtime former member of the Red Hat Society.
Martha is survived by two sisters, Mary Giles of Florida and Louise Smersh of Washington, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Ivey, and her siblings, Francis, George, Walter and Albert Magurn, Barbara Keizer and Esther Capozzoli.
In keeping with Martha's wishes, no formal services will be held, and she will be laid to rest privately at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord, MA.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
