IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark
Hoffman
December 14, 1938 – July 24, 2025
Mark Hoffman, of Lexington, Massachusetts, passed away on July 24, 2025 at the age of 86.
From his home town of Oxford, Mississippi, Mark travelled on scholarships first to the East coast (Harvard), then further to the U.K. (Cambridge) and beyond, frequently accompanied by friends made through his lifelong passion for rowing.
After meeting and marrying his wife MJ in Washington D.C., Mark established their young family in London, where his professional career mirrored the emergence of London as a global financial center in the 1970s, '80s and '90s.
Mark was a graduate of Harvard Business School, an MIT fellow in Africa, a part of the IFC when it emerged in Europe and Latin America, a director at Hambros Bank in London, and CFO of Canadian holding company Weston's, before pursuing a wide variety of board, venture capital and investing roles.
Beyond his professional career, Mark devoted considerable energy to inspiring and developing young people. His roles – including President of United World Colleges, Chairman of the Leander Club in Henley-On-Thames, and Board Member of the Fiske Scholarship program – all ultimately served to provide others with the same educational and development opportunities he had himself enjoyed.
Mark is survived by his wife MJ, their three Europe-based sons Nick, John and James, and nine grandchildren to whom Mark has passed on his love of rowing and music, his intellectual curiosity, and a deep interest in sharing inspiring human stories, often over an ice cream.
Private funeral arrangements were entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
