Obituary

Marjory Morgan Evans was born in Philadelphia on April 2, 1916. She always appreciated the fact that this was only a day after April Fools Day and often spoke and kidded with those who crossed her path over the 94 years of her life. She died Saturday, May 29th, 2010 and was at home with Madge until 36 hours before her passing. Marge was the daughter of Clayton and Gertrude (Engle) Morgan. Her dad died suddenly when she was three or four; an event that marked her life. She was a graduate of Green Street Friends School, Germantown Friends School and she earned a BA and an MA from Wellesley. Ever young at heart, she loved working and playing with children of all ages and for over 20 years taught physical education in several Quaker schools in the Philadelphia area. She also devoted many summers to being a swimming counselor at Camp Aloha in Fairlee, VT. Marge moved to Acton in 1976 shortly after her mother died. She bought a house near where Madge lived and within a year they had consolidated into a third home which they shared, with an assortment of cats, for the next 33 years. Madge loved the out of doors and loved to garden. She was also an active volunteer and was active in the Concord Grange and the Acton Garden Club. She is survived by her daughter Madge and by her son Howard and his wife Vicki Pollard who live in Blue Hill, Maine, and by their two step-grandchildren, Tanya and Justin Pollard. Because of Madge's love of animals, of this one amazing earth on which she loved to adventure, we would like to request that, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the National Audubon Society (www.audubon.org), 225 Varick St., 7th floor, Dept. W, New York, NY 10014 or to an animal shelter whose work you value. Marge's body was cremated and her ashes will be placed at the cemetery in Philadelphia whre both her mother and grandmother rest. A Memorial Celebration was held at the Concord Academy Chapel, Concord, Massachusettson June 10, 2010.
