It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Ruth Cannon announces her passing at the age of 93 on August 26, 2017 in Littleton, MA. at Lifecare of Nashoba Valley
She was beloved wife of Joseph Francis Cannon and a wonderful mother of seven children.
On January 31, 1924, Marjorie Ruth Choyce was born in Danbury, CT to Mary Agnes O'Connor Choyce and Richard Paul Choyce, third child of six siblings. Her family moved from Brooklyn, NY to the Choyce homestead in Asbury Park, NJ where Marjorie attended Holy Spirit and St. Mary's grade school. Her father worked as a hatter at Dobbs & Co. hat manufacturer in Norwalk, CT. Marjorie attended St. Joseph's grade school with top literary marks in her class.
During WWII, after successfully graduating from Norwalk High School in 1942, she worked as a teletype operator at Western Union Telegraph Co. Then attended Lowell General School of Nursing where she proudly earned her nursing diploma.
After graduating as a registered nurse, Marge returned to Boston and worked at Mass General Hospital where she met her future husband, Joseph Francis Cannon whom she married in 1950.
Marjorie and Joe relocated to Cincinnati, OH when Joe was transferred to General Electric Jet Propulsion Lab. In 1952 they moved back to Massachusetts and settled in Concord, MA where they raised their seven children together.
Being taught by her mother to sew and knit as a child, she used these skills to make countless dresses, hats, gloves and jackets for her children throughout the years. Her sewing evolved into quilt making, where every family member has at least one quilt to be cherished now as a family heirloom. Marjorie also made quilts to give away to charities and just because to friends. Marjorie loved good food and socializing. She was an avid reader, a Scrabble guru and most of all spending time with her family.
Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph F. Cannon. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Mark.
She is survived by her children and their families; Jay (Joseph, Jr.) and Rayah Cannon, Patty and Bill Martin, Kathy and John Shortsleeves, Maureen Cannon, John and Nancy Cannon and Bill Cannon. Grandchildren Matthew Cannon, Patrick Cannon, Lexie Smith, Kelley Shortsleeves, Emily Shortsleeves, Mark Cannon and Annie Cannon, great grandchildren Nick Cannon, Joey Cannon and Dylan Cannon along with Marjorie's younger sister, Sr. Dorothy Choyce.
A funeral service for Mrs. Cannon will be held on Wednesday August 30th at 11:30 A.M. in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center.
Visitation will precede the service at the Dee Funeral Home from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M
Interment will follow the service in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
