Obituary

Marilyn Theresa (Slater) Yates, age 84, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 17, 2024 in Billerica, Massachusetts. She was the wife of Richard R. Yates, who predeceased her in 1992.

She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on March 1, 1940 to Joseph Thomas Slater and Margaret (Maloney) Slater.

Marilyn's family eventually moved to Port Orchard, Washington, where she did most of her schooling. As an only child, she helped her father improve their house, where they raised and sold chickens. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea grade school and graduated from Holy Angels High School in Seattle, Washington. She decided to go into nursing after high school. In July 1959, she met Richard Yates, who was stationed at Fort Lewis, and after dating and corresponding for 10 months, they married and lived in Rhode Island. They later moved to Concord, Massachusetts.

Marilyn worked as an LPN for several years at Kent County Hospital in Warwick, RI. Later, she worked in a variety of administrative positions. Marilyn loved knitting, needlepoint, sewing and travel. She especially loved her bichon, Beau.

Survivors include her four children: Denise Hills (Alan), Carol Greer (Tim), Monique Hills (Frank) and Julie Maza (Dominic). Marilyn is a grandmother to Adam, Brianne, Christopher, Danielle, Eryn, Shaun, Michael, Nicholas, Nate, Stephanie, Xavier, Max, Rhys, Gabrielle and Ava. She is a great-grandmother to Emma, Connor, Laura and Olivia.

Family members will gather for a private burial service at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to the American Stroke Association .

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
