Obituary

Marguerite "Meg" Fontanella Wiltse, was born in Catskill, NY on June 24, 1926 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 9, 2021 in Maynard, MA. Meg loved her family, friends, and life with her whole heart. She never met a stranger, and her friends were her friends for life. In a short conversation, she would learn everything about you, your family, and your life dreams. She cared. Meg made her life extraordinary. She shook hands with JFK, interviewed Eleanor Roosevelt, and attended a Diplomatic Reception with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Syracuse University and a Master's degree in English from Albany State Teacher's College. At Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, MD, she taught public speaking, acting, and English during the 1970s. She delighted in seeing her students' self-confidence grow. An enthusiastic volunteer and devout Catholic all her life, Meg attended daily Mass and served as a lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL for many years. Meg also volunteered at the St. Pete Museum of Fine Arts—both in the office and as a docent—during the 1980s and 90s. She proudly served on the City Beautiful Commission for many years, coordinating the Memorial Tree program. Most importantly, Meg was a devoted wife and mother. Her late husband, Robert, and children Bob (Evie), Dean (Stephany), and Linda (Bill) were her first priority. A kid at heart, Meg was the best grandmother—always the first to sit on the floor to play games, laugh, and sing songs. Her 8 grandchildren—Adam, Luke, Josh, Julia, Anna, Alex, Valentina, and Alessandro—loved her dearly. She also adored her 6 great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Juliet, Brianna, Grace, Ryan, and Ameera. Due to COVID restrictions, Meg's family will gather privately in the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Concord, MA. Please click here to view the recorded Mass on Wednesday, January 13th at 10:30 am . Burial will be private at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL, the St. Petersburg City Beautiful Gift Tree program, or the COPD Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
