Obituary

Marguerite T. (Gannon) Hodgman, 91, of Concord, died peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of the late Roy B. Hodgman who died in 2009. Born in Yonkers, New York on October 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Philomena (McCormick) Gannon. In her early life, she graduated from her parish school in Yonkers, NY and later resided in Somers, New York. Marguerite (Rita) met her husband, Roy, during World War II and they subsequently married in Somers in 1946. Mrs. Hodgman became a Concord resident in 1946, and was formerly employed as a Bookkeeper by Thomas Byron, CPA in Concord, and later for the Concord Public School system. A faithful parishioner at Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church in Concord, she was a member of St. Bernard's Sodality and regularly volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister for patients at Emerson Hospital. During their marriage, Roy and Rita enjoyed traveling to Europe as well as to Florida, Missouri and North Carolina to visit relatives. Rita had an unwavering devotion to her family, and will be deeply missed as a loving mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Survivors include her children, Donald Hodgman and his wife Martha of Wenham, Patricia A. Hodgman and her husband Jonathan Gitlin of Bourne, Rod Hodgman and his wife Nancy of Boxborough, Rita Griffin and her husband Dan of Durham, NC, Larry Hodgman and his wife Donna Valentini of Ashland, and the late Maureen Hodgman Schleicher, fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Lawrence and George Gannon. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21st at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours in the Dee Funeral Home are on Thursday, October 20th from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the CatholicTV Network, 34 Chestnut St., Watertown, MA 02472. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
