Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Mabbs, nee von Paulsen, died with a son and a daughter in attendance on October 6, 2013. She is survived by three children, Chris, Kenneth, and Meg Anne; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She appreciated and produced poetry and painting in addition to being an avid grower of orchids. She contributed to various community activities including helping the public schools, promoting conservation, serving as docent at the Scaife Gallery of the Carnegie Museum of Art, and volunteering as Guardian Ad Litem for the State of Florida. As the daughter of a Coast Guard captain, she grew up in several coastal cities, including Cape May NJ, Newport RI, and Miami FL. She attended Miss Harris's School with her sister Phoebe in Coconut Grove during the Thirties before going to Miami University, the University of Vermont, and graduating from Cornell University. At Cornell, she met Edward Mabbs and married him after graduation in 1943. During the war, she worked in a typewriter factory. After the war, she and Ed raised four children, living in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. They retired to a home they built in 1986 on Plantation Key, FL. The Mabbs family has enjoyed a summer home on Nantucket since 1970. Meg and Ed have lived in Lincoln, MA since 2001. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord, MA.
