Margaret (Lawrence) Folkins, 90, of Silver Spring, Maryland, formerly of Concord, Mass. died Thursday August 2, 2018 in Silver Spring. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Col. Jack Folkins, USAF (Ret.) who died in 2009.
Born in Concord on May 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell E. and Cornelia (Martinson) Lawrence. She attended Concord public schools and was a 1946 graduate of Concord High School.
She later graduated from Leland Powers School of Theatre in Boston. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, Mrs. Folkins appeared in numerous stage productions around the United States and was a background player in films produced in the Washington D.C. area.
She worked for a time as a travel agent, and also volunteered many hours with the USO, Literary Council of America and with Hospice of Maryland.
She was the mother of Scott Folkins of Columbia, MD, Karen Smith and her husband Michael of Dunkirk, MD and Bruce Folkins and his wife Monica of Columbia, MD, and grandmother of Maura and Kurt Folkins, and Caitlin and Kirsten Smith. She was also the sister of Maxwell E. Lawrence Jr. and his wife Catherine of Billerica and is survived by one niece, one nephew and many cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 9th from 4 to 6 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 10th at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Interment will follow in the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
