Retired Carlisle Public School teacher, Margaret Cullinane passed away peacefully on May 19, 2012 at the Heartland Nursing Home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Born in Chelmsford MA in 1921 to Jens Jensen of Denmark and Inga Duklat of Norway, Margaret grew up in Chelmsford in a home built by her father, and later in Lowell, MA. She spoke of the Great Flood of 1936, remembering racing across the Merrimac River bridge with her brother Harold just before it was swept away. She completed her education at Lowell State Teachers College, teaching in Leominster during the war years. In 1944 she married Matthew Cullinane, Jr., and they moved to Concord to start a family. Always a lover of children, Margaret was a kind, patient, and loving mother. She returned to teaching in Carlisle MA in the late fifties, and her happiest years there were spent teaching her beloved fifth graders in the antique one-room schoolhouse on the campus. During those years, she earned her Masters Degree in Education, with honors. Margaret and her husband Matty raised their 3 children, and on their retirement roamed the US and Canada in their Airstream, coming to rest at Travelers Rest in Dade City, Florida in 1986. There, Margaret indulged her passions for art and literature, becoming an accomplished oil painter, and writing about her travels and observations of life in the local newspaper. She made many wonderful friends at TR and enjoyed a full social life, round-dancing, golfing, entertaining and attending musical performances. She loved her summer home in the mountains of North Carolina, and she and Matty moved there full-time for a brief period. But they missed TR and their friends, and moved back in 2004. Her beloved husband Matty, lifelong partner and best friend, passed away last December. Margaret is survived by her 3 children, Lynne Cullinane of New Jersey, David Cullinane and his wife Sharon (Crescitelli) of Massachusetts, Marsha Cope and husband George of Pennsylvania, and her very close auxiliary daughter Katharine Widmer. Margaret leaves behind her sister Priscilla Jensen of Zephyrhills FL, and was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Harris Conrad of Lunenburg, MA, and by her brother Harold Jensen of Chelmsford. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 2 PM in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. Burial will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, followed by a gathering at the Colonial Inn. Arrangements are under the care of Susan M. Dee and Charles W.
