Major Charles E. Ramsey, USA (Ret.) of Lincoln, Mass. formerly of Mechanicsburg, Penn. died Wednesday May 25, 2011 in Weston, Mass. He was the beloved husband of 64 years of Doris R. Ramsey. Born in Rauchtown, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1918 he was the son of the late Charles D. and Florence (Bixel) Ramsey. He was a graduate of Mill Hall High School in 1936 and later attended Lock Haven Teachers College in Lock Haven, Penn. Major Ramsey began his over twenty year career with the U. S. Army with his service during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. He was later stationed in Germany, France, Thailand, Kansas City, Missouri and Wisconsin. He retired in 1961 as Commanding Officer of the Lake City Arsenal in Independence, Missouri. Following military service, he began a 20 year career with the Civil Service. He was employed in ordinance logistics with the U.S. Army in Illinois and Pennsylvania. He was a resident of Mechanicsburg from 1967 until 2010 when he moved to Lincoln. In his retirement years, he and his wife Doris enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He also became an expert woodworker and also had more time to enjoy his love of hunting and fishing. He was the father of Margaret Ramsey and her husband John McCluskey of Lincoln and Carl A. Ramsey and his wife Vicki of Marriottsville, MD; grandfather of Russell and Cassie Cohen, Sarah McCluskey and Gregory and Kelly Ramsey. He was the brother of Donald Ramsey of Gardners, PA, Lois Crawford of Mill Hall, PA, Shirley Wells of Lamar, PA and the late Bernadine Walizer. Visiting hours will be held at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Wednesday June 1st from 12 Noon to 1 pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 1 pm. Officiating will be The Rev. Patrick Ward, Assistant Rector of St. Anne in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln. Interment with military honors will follow in Lincoln Cemetery.
