Madeline (Payne) Belmont, 95, of Concord died Friday February 9, 2018 at her Concord home. She was the wife of 55 years of the late Fred Belmont.
Born in Westford on January 31, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John and Madeline (Mulcahy) Payne. She attended Westford schools and was a 1940 graduate of Concord High School.
A Registered Nurse, Mrs. Belmont graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell in 1943 and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps during World War II. During her nursing career she worked at Emerson Hospital in Concord and at several nursing homes in the area.
In addition to Concord, she resided in Harvard, Mass. for 18 years and also in Acton, Maynard and West Yarmouth, Mass. Other residences include Naples, Maine, Wolfeboro, Moultonboro, and Tuftonboro, New Hampshire as well as Tennessee.
She was a former member of James J. Mansfield American Legion Post in Concord.
She was the mother of Suzanne B. Peoples of Holderness, NH, John Belmont, Cynthia Waite of Littleton and the late Diane B. Beskalo and is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late John and Warren "Sonny" Payne and Constance O'Neil.
Visiting hours will be held on Wed. Feb. 14th at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord Center from 10 to 12 Noon followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 12 Noon.
Interment with military honors will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
