Madeleine E. (Coan) Venti, 96, of Concord, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Concord Healthcare Center in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis J. Venti who died in 2012.
Born in Lincoln on August 1, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. Coan and Anna A. (Crowley) Coan. She attended Lincoln and Concord public schools and graduated from Concord High School in 1939.
During World War II, she served in the U. S. Navy as a Specialist Third Class. She was a member of the Massachusetts Waves, Unit 17, Old Ironsides.
For many years, Mrs. Venti was a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company in Lincoln and Raytheon in Lexington. During the 1950's and 1960's, Mrs. Venti worked at the Rose Hawthorne School in Concord.
A Concord resident since 1946, she was a member of the Sodality and Altar Guild at St. Bernard's Church in Concord. She enjoyed sewing and Knitting.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda A. Geldart and her husband Robert of Maynard, her son, Joseph T. Venti and his wife Karen of Concord, three grandchildren, Michael Shawn Geldart of Wilmington, Sam Joseph Venti and Madeline Rose Venti, both of Concord, two great-grandchildren, Jack and Sadie Geldart of Wilmington, several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Frances Maloney, Thomas Coan, Peggy Bradley, Dorothy Quinn, Elizabeth Seaburg, and Helen Myott.
Funeral will be held from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, on Monday, September 28th at 7:45 am followed by a funeral Mass at 9 am in St. Michael's Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford.
Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord, where officers of the U. S. Navy will present military honors.
Visiting hours are Sunday, September 27th from 3 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home.
Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Monday in recognition of Mrs. Venti's service in the U. S. Navy during WWII.
