Obituary

M. Patricia Carey passed away peacefully on November 25, 2012 in Concord, MA at the age of 92. Born in Concord on March 12, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Henrietta (Marsden) and David Carey. Pat had one brother who predeceased her in 2003, David M. Carey of Naples, Florida. Pat was a lifelong resident of Concord, graduated from Peter Bulkeley School, Concord High School and in 1941 received a bachelor's degree from Regis College in Weston. After college, Pat worked for E. B. Badger and Sons, Co. in Boston, MA for ten years, then for the next 11 years, Pat was the Executive Secretary to Dean E. P. Brooks at MIT's School of Industrial Management. After that, in 1962, Pat was asked to be the librarian for MIT's Center for International Studies where she worked with many prominent U. S. government officials requiring her to attain top-level clearance with the CIA and the Department of Defense. Pat was an avid reader of history and loved traveling internationally. Some of her favorite places were Beirut, Jerusalem and Jordan.In Pat's later years, she did the financial accounting at the home and birthplace of Henry David Thoreau and she became very active with The Concord Council on Aging. After retirement, Pat also worked for the Concord Schools Human Resource Department. She volunteered to help seniors complete their taxes, insurance forms and driving seniors to their medical appointments. She was also on the Board of the Timothy H. Wheeler House in Concord and later became a resident. After that, Pat went to live at Rivercrest/New England Deaconess for the next four years, where the nurses and staff made each day a happy one for her. Pat is survived by her sisters-in-law, Eve C. Carey of Naples, Florida and Norine T. Casey of Lexington, MA; her nieces, Norine P. Carey of Naples, Florida, Dr. Eva M. Carey, and her husband Ronald H. Dailey and their daughter Rebecca C. Dailey, all of Anchorage, Alaska; and Caroline M. Carey and her husband James K. Langan of Hyde Park, NY. Pat's two nephews predeceased her, David M. Carey, Jr. of New York City, New York and Peter D. Carey and his surviving wife Susan B. Carey and their daughter Paige D. Carey, both of Winter Park, Florida. Cemetery: Interment will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visitation: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 29th from 4 to 6 PM in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Service: Funeral will be held on Friday, November 30th from the Dee Funeral Home at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10:30 AM.
