Obituary

Lynn Segal Walker, 72, of Sudbury, died peacefully at home on May 5, 2022, following a brave four year battle with brain cancer. She was surrounded by her family. She was born in New York City, New York, and grew up in Merrick, Long Island with her parents, Rhoda and Norman Segal, and her sister Nancy. She graduated from Mepham High School in 1967 and continued her education at the University of Maryland College of Education where she studied, played on the tennis team, marched in peace marches and graduated with a Bachelor of Science teaching degree. Lynn moved to Boston in 1971 where she received her Masters in Education from Boston University and started her lifelong teaching journey. She taught elementary grades in Cambridge, Sudbury, and Carlisle, MA. She was an extraordinary and passionate second grade teacher for 20+ years in Carlisle, MA, and had an unbelievable love for all children. She met Ken, her husband, on a skiing trip with the Boston Ski & Sports Club, and they were married for 47 years and lived in Sudbury, MA throughout that time. She was the most amazing and generous Daughter, Mom, Wife, Sister, and friend. She touched so many lives and made friends wherever she went. It's no surprise that she kept in touch with so many of them throughout her life. Lynn had a true love of life and surrounded herself with people that loved her just as much. Lynn loved being near or in the water, whether it was collecting shells at her favorite ocean beach, long distance swims around the islands of Lake Winnipesaukee, or soaking up the sun and swimming with the turtles at her beloved beaches on St. John, USVI. Her excitement, energy, emotions, laughter and smile were contagious and everyone loved being around her. She loved to knit, sew, swim, read, make baskets, cook, bake, golf, draw, paint, give presents, and most importantly, spend time with her family. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and love to all of the health care aides from Home Helpers, the hospice nurses from VNA Care and the many, many friends and family that have been there for them during this difficult time. Lynn will be forever loved and missed by her husband, Ken Walker, her son, Dale Walker and partner Ari Krolick, her daughter, Sarah Phoenix and husband Greg Phoenix, and her two granddaughters, Riley and Quinn Phoenix. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Lynn's family encourages all her dear friends, relatives, colleagues, and students to "Live, Love, and Laugh" with vibrance, and welcome all the rainbows and hearts you can into your life. Donations to honor her memory and her love of all children may be made to Cradles to Crayons or The Home for Little Wanderers . Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
